Terms of use.
These terms cover how you can use boardfizz and what you can expect from us. We’ve kept the legalese to the minimum a site like this needs. Reading the site or writing to the desk means you agree to them.
The short version.
- Our briefs are independent opinion — not buying advice, not commissioned reviews.
- The writing and design are ours; please ask before republishing them wholesale.
- Write in freely. Sending a letter lets us quote or publish it, credited however you choose.
- We don’t sell games, run a store, or take real-money gambling of any kind.
- The site is provided as-is; we get things wrong sometimes, and we correct them in the open.
Accepting these terms
By browsing boardfizz, reading a brief or sending us a letter, you accept these terms and our privacy notice. If you don’t agree with them, the simplest course is not to use the site. Should a court find one clause unenforceable, the rest still stand.
What boardfizz is
Our briefs are critical opinion about how game systems behave. They aren’t professional advice. Nor are they a substitute for playing a game yourself, and they are deliberately score-free: we describe structure and decision space rather than rank games out of ten.
boardfizz is also not a shop. We don’t sell games, take payments or operate any form of real-money gambling, and nothing here is a betting product or a gambling promotion. It is an editorial about tabletop and hybrid game design — nothing more.
Using the site
You’re welcome to read, link to and share boardfizz for your own non-commercial use. In return, please don’t:
- scrape, bulk-download or systematically copy the site;
- use our work to train a machine-learning model without permission;
- interfere with how the site runs, or probe its security;
- pass our writing off as your own, or use it for anything unlawful or misleading.
Our content and intellectual property
The briefs, essays, illustrations, layout and the boardfizz name belong to us or are licensed to us, and copyright protects them. Quoting a reasonable extract with clear attribution and a link back is fine. Republishing a whole brief, mirroring the site or building a competing publication on our work needs written permission first. Ask the desk; the answer is usually yes.
Your letters and submissions
When you send a letter, tip, correction or argument, you confirm it’s yours to send and that it infringes no one else’s rights. Ownership stays with you. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to quote it, edit it for length and clarity, and publish it — under your name, your initials or anonymously, exactly as you ask. Mark it off the record and it stays off.
We don’t pay for letters or tips. Sending one creates no partnership, agency or employment between us.
Corrections and accuracy
We work hard to get the facts right, and we date our corrections in the open. Briefs are still opinion, though, and rules shift between printings and errata. Treat what you read here as our considered take rather than gospel; check a current rulebook before you settle a real argument with it.
Links and third parties
When we link out, it’s because we found something worth reading — never because someone paid us to. We don’t control those sites and can’t answer for their content, terms or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end.
No warranties
boardfizz is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. We don’t promise the site will always be online, error-free or uninterrupted. Beyond the guarantees that consumer law says cannot be excluded, we give no warranties.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss that comes from using the site or relying on a brief — buying a game you ended up not enjoying, for instance. Where liability can’t be excluded, it is limited to supplying the content again. Nothing in these terms limits rights under consumer law that can’t be waived.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You agree that the courts of New South Wales have jurisdiction over anything arising from them.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, the date at the top changes, and anything material is noted on the site. Continuing to use boardfizz after a change means you accept the current version.
